RobX SDR · radio and satellites

A radio receiver on your computer
from broadcast to space

The simplest receiver there is: broadcast, walkie-talkies, air band and weather satellite images — in one window.

Setup takes a minute. Updates arrive on their own.

RobX SDR window: spectrum and waterfall on the left, preset list on the right

Spectrum and waterfall: the whole slice of the band at once — where the station is and where the noise is.

Two modes in one window

The air around you and the satellites above you. No switching between programs.

Spectrum and waterfall

The whole slice of the band at once: where the station is, where the noise is. Click the spectrum — the receiver is already there.

Satellites on the world map

Where the spacecraft is now, where it is heading, when it rises above your horizon and for how many minutes.

Weather satellite images

A NOAA pass recorded with Doppler tracking and decoded from APT — the cloud picture builds itself.

Works without a receiver

A built-in radio simulator: stations, walkie-talkies and a real satellite recording. You can learn it before buying a dongle.

What to receive with

Any RTL-SDR v3 will do — it is not a brand but a de facto standard: an R820T2 tuner and RTL2832U sampling in a small case with USB and an antenna connector.

An RTL-SDR receiver

A telescopic antenna usually comes in the box, and it is enough for FM broadcast and local walkie-talkies.

  • 24 – 1766 MHz — from the air band to satellites.
  • TCXO crystal — the frequency does not drift as it warms up.
  • Power over the cable (bias-tee) — for an active antenna.

Do you make receivers?

If you build or sell receivers, we will list you here and check that the program works with them. Write to team@robx.online.

Bands are picked from a list The program sets the frequency, mode and bandwidth itself. Any other frequency can be typed in by hand.

Band Frequencies Mode How the signal is built: WFM is broadcast FM radio, NFM is the narrow-band modulation of walkie-talkies and satellites, AM is amplitude modulation (air band and shortwave), SSB is the single sideband used by radio amateurs. What you hear
VHF FM broadcast 87.5 – 108 MHz WFM Ordinary FM radio
Air band 118 – 137 MHz AM Controllers and aircraft, 8.33 / 25 kHz spacing
NOAA weather satellites (APT) 137 – 138 MHz NFM Cloud images, decoded inside the program
ISS and amateur satellites 145.8 – 145.99 MHz NFM Voice from the ISS, APRS digipeater
Marine VHF 156 – 162 MHz NFM Channels 1–28 and 60–88
LPD433 and PMR446 433 / 446 MHz NFM Licence-free walkie-talkies
Amateur 2 m and 70 cm 144 / 430 MHz NFM, SSB Repeaters, CW, cubesat transponders
CB, shortwave, 40 m 5.9 – 27 MHz AM, LSB Needs direct sampling mode or an upconverter

What people ask before buying

Can I try it without a receiver?

Yes. The program has a radio simulator: stations, walkie-talkies and a real satellite recording. The interface is the same as with hardware.

Do I need a licence to listen?

Receiving on a consumer receiver is allowed. Transmitting without a permit is not — and an RTL-SDR only receives.

What antenna do satellites need?

For the first NOAA images the bundled telescopic antenna spread into a V is enough. Later people move to a turnstile or a double cross — but you can start with what is in the box.

Does it replace SDR#?

For learning, yes: receiving, waterfall, satellites and images in one window. We have no narrow speciality plugins.
